Total food industry deals for September 2020 worth $4.97bn were announced globally, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

The value marked an increase of 250.4% over the previous month and a rise of 113.1% when compared with the last 12-month average of $2.33bn.

In terms of number of deals, the sector saw a rise of 1.5% over the last 12-month average with 66 deals against the average of 65 deals.

In value terms, North America led the activity with deals worth $3.26bn.

The top five food deals accounted for 90.9% of the overall value during September 2020.

The combined value of the top five food deals stood at $4.52bn, against the overall value of $4.97bn recorded for the month.

1) Groupe Lactalis’ $3.2bn asset transaction with The Kraft Heinz

2) The $782.79m asset transaction with Kerry Group by Kerry Co-Operative Creameries

3) Enterprise Reform Fund, Fujian Salt Group, Nanfang Media Group, Ningbo Haoshu Investment and Yunnan Provincial Energy Investment Group’s $278m private equity deal with Guangdong Guangyan Holdings

4) The $150m acquisition of Changshouhua FoodLimited by SanXing Trade

5) Orkla’s acquisition of Eastern Condiments for $112.68m.
