Colman’s has installed two Russell Compact Sieves to safeguard high-quality standards at Norwich manufacturing plant.
The new 900mm sieves have improved process efficiency on the production line, replacing the 40-year old spring suspension open-top sieves that used bristle brushes to push the flour through the sieve. The Russell Compact Sieve® is completely enclosed to protect Colman’s operators from dust in the atmosphere, which was a previous hazard.
Only two high-capacity industrial sieves are now needed to achieve the 2t per hour production rate, compared to four of the old sieves. The Russell Compact Sieves are designed for ease of installation and operation, as well as being virtually maintenance free.
Constant supervision of the machines is no longer required, which means that the operator’s involvement is dramatically reduced. This provides significant savings in labour and downtime costs.
The system, with its combination of ultrasonic sieving and conventional vibration, is capable of providing high-throughputs and accuracy of screening at the very fine mesh sizes that Colman’s requires.
