Daily’s Premium Meats, a premium supplier of meat products in the US, is building a new pork processing facility in St Joseph, Missouri, US.

The plant will produce sliced-to-order naturally hardwood smoked bacon. It will be constructed with an estimated investment of $41.5m.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the new plant was held in May 2015. The facility is scheduled to start operations in May 2016 and is expected to generate approximately 200 jobs when fully operational.

Daily’s Premium Meats was wholly owned by Seaboard Foods until Triumph Foods purchased a 50% stake in September 2014. Seaboard Foods and Triumph Foods hold an equal stake in the company.

The two partners formed a 50:50 joint venture to construct a new pork processing facility in Sioux City, Iowa, which will be one of the biggest of its kind in Sioux City. The new plant is expected to become operational by July 2017.

Details of Daily’s Premium Meats’ new pork processing plant

Daily’s Premium Meats unveiled its plans to construct the pork processing plant in St Joseph in March 2015. The 140,000ft² facility is being built across the road from Triumph Foods’ existing pork processing plant in St Joseph.

Missouri Department of Economic Development (MDED) offered a strategic incentive package, which will be sanctioned if the new plant meets strict employment creation and investment criteria.

Contractors involved

Epstein, a multi-disciplinary design and construction company headquartered in Chicago, is responsible for the design and construction of the new plant.

Marketing agreements

Seaboard signed a contract with Triumph to advertise and sell meat products produced by the latter’s St Joseph plants along with products produced by Seaboard Foods’ Guymon pork processing plant.

The pork products are globally marketed under the Seaboard Farms and St Joe Pork brand names. In the domestic market, they are marketed under the PrairieFresh Premium Pork brand. Processed meats will continue to be sold under the Daily’s Premium Meats brand.

Marketing commentary

Daily’s Premium Meats was founded as a retail meat marketer in Missoula by John Daily in 1893. The company is well-known for premium meats, especially hardwood smoked bacon, and also sells a range of processed pork items such as signature honey cured and applewood smoked bacon, smoked hams and sausages.

Seaboard Foods is a subsidiary of Seaboard Corporation, which produces premium pork products for worldwide markets. Triumph Foods is also a producer and exporter of pork products globally.
