ROS Agro to build second desugarisation station in Russia

Russian food company ROS Agro is planning to construct its second molasses desugarisation station in the Belgorod region.

The second plant will be constructed at Chernyansky sugar plant with an estimated cost of RUR5.7bn ($100.3m), of which 80% will be financed by the loan.

With the construction of the new desugarisation plant, the Russian food company expects to increase sugar production by 70,000t on an annual basis.

In addition to the enhanced sugar production capacity, the new plant will also enable 100% processing of molasses produced at the company’s six sugar plants located in Belgorod, Kursk, and Orel regions.

Earlier this month, the company announced that it has ended its beet sugar production season for 2017-18.

The company noted that the production period lasted for 129 days at its plants, during which it has produced 842,300t of sugar, including 14,700t of tolling sugar beet.

Sugar production began at ROS Agro plants on 24 August last year and ended on 1 January this year.

During this period, the company is reported to have processed 5.7 million tonnes of sugar beet with an average sugar content of 18%.

The company currently holds a stock of 421,900t.

In addition to sugar production, ROS Agro also owns and operates meat, oil and other agricultural businesses in Russia.
