Land O'Lakes opens new innovation centre in Wisconsin, US


US-based agricultural cooperative Land O'Lakes has opened its new WinField United Innovation Centre in River Falls, Wisconsin, as part of its research commitment to provide farmers with better tools to grow crops.

The new 55,000ft² WinField United Innovation Center will be a replacement for the existing 6,000ft² WinField Product Development Center and Spray Analysis System and further strengthens the company’s $50m annual research commitment.

Land O'Lakes president and CEO Chris Policinski said: "The WinField United Innovation Center further strengthens our research and development capabilities and our reputation as a leader in 21st century agribusiness and innovation.

"The research and testing performed here will enable more targeted applications of crop protection products, which benefits both applicators and farmers. It also helps move the industry forward to achieve greater sustainability in land, water and air quality."

This research centre will guide and provide information to farmers on how and where to use crop protection and nutrient products in the field.

The company also noted that the enhanced space will provide them more opportunities to conduct research on a variety of agricultural products, including adjuvants, herbicides, insecticides, fungicides, plant nutrition and performance solutions, as well as seed treatments.

WinField United executive vice-president and chief operating officer Mike Vande Logt said: "Before we bring products to a farmer's fields, we make sure they work in our fields first.”

The centre also features Infinity Group, a spray application laboratory equipped with advanced capabilities to conduct testing in both controlled and in-field environments.

The laboratory features a wind tunnel, to evaluate the entire application process, including crop protection and adjuvant formulations, tank mixes, nozzle performance, spray characterisation, drift and droplet deposition, and plant uptake.
