Weetabix to invest in UK manufacturing facilities

UK-based food company Weetabix is planning to invest £30m across its manufacturing sites in Burton Latimer and Corby.

With this new investment, the company anticipates that it would increase its production facility capacity by next year, which would help the firm to meet the growing demand for its Weetabix biscuits in both domestic and international markets.

The investment is also expected to create new jobs.

Weetabix CEO Giles Turrell said: “We’ve consistently bucked the market, through our innovation and focus on nutritionally strong products that taste great.

“We have been successful in increasing our sales of brands such as Weetabix and Alpen, with consumers trusting us to deliver best-in-class nutrition and taste.”

Last year, Weetabix’s market share for cereals and drinks has risen from 15.3% to 16.4%, as UK shoppers were reported to have shifted their preference towards more nutritious and convenient breakfast choices.

The company further added that with the launch of Weetabix Protein added £7m to sales last year, and was reported to be a major new cereal launch in the category.

Kettering MP Philip Hollobone said: “As someone who eats Weetabix every day, I am delighted at this new investment in the local economy and am confident that Weetabix has a bright future ahead of it.”

In addition, the company's ‘Weetabix On the Go’ breakfast drinks has shown a rapid growth in the UK, according to the company.
