Uber launches UberEATS in London

US-based ride-hailing app Uber has launched a restaurant delivery app UberEATS in London, UK, which enables customers to order food items from more than 150 restaurants through their mobile devices and have them delivered at their doorstep.

This service is expected to put pressure on delivery services such as Just Eat and Deliveroo, reported Financial Times.

Uber had earlier launched a trial service in London and offered Wall’s ice cream to its users.

UberEATS is already operational in 16 other cities, including Singapore, Paris, Toronto, Atlanta and San Francisco.

Users can download UberEATS application on their smartphones through their existing account or by creating a new account and order food, similar to how they order an Uber car.

Food can be ordered from London restaurants such as The Good Life Eatery, Hotbox, Chilango, Pho, Comptoir Libanais and Snog.

The service will be initially available in central London from 11am to 11pm throughout the year. Additional restaurants will be included in the list in the near future.

UberEATS London general manager Alex Czarnecki was quoted by Marketingweek.com as saying: “The UberEATS app has been a huge success in every city we’ve launched in and we think Londoners will love it too.”

UberEATS will enable restaurants to access a new group of potential customers.

Uber UK regional general manager Jo Bertram was quoted by Marketingweek.com as saying: “People love being able to push a button to book a car and now they can order great food with us too. We’ll bring lunch, treats and dinner to Londoners with the same choice, convenience and value we’re already known for.”
