Tyson Foods to expand manufacturing capability in US

US-based Tyson Foods is set to invest $15.5m to expand its current operations in Goodlettsville, Davidson County, US, which will create around 157 new jobs.

The announcement was made by Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam and Economic and Community Development commissioner Bill Hagerty, and company officials.

The investment will be used to add four production lines, expand cold storage capabilities at the Tyson Fresh Meats facility in Goodlettsville, as well as hire and train new workers.

Work has already commenced at the plant to install the new equipment and hiring is expected to start in June 2014, for the newly created production jobs.

Currently, the plant produces case-ready beef and pork products for grocery stores and other retailers, and has a workforce of around 1,600 workers.

Bill Hagerty said, "Tyson Foods already employs a significant amount of Tennesseans at its facilities in our state, and I appreciate their continued support and investment."

Tyson Fresh Meats Goodlettsville complex manager Jeff Rowen said, "We’re very appreciative to the state of Tennessee and our local partners for their support on this expansion, which will help us build up our capabilities locally."

Tyson and its subsidiaries employ around 4,300 Tennesseans at its facilities in Goodlettsville, Shelbyville and Union City.

Headquartered in Springdale, Arkansas, Tyson is a leading processor and marketer of chicken, beef and pork.
