Tine plans to enhance cheese production operations in Norway

Norway-based dairy producer and distributor Tine has plans to enhance its cheese production operations and reconstruct a dairy plant.

These are part of its cost-cutting measures, which will enable the company to save approximately Nkr69m ($8m) a year, reported Just-food.com.

The Norway dairy firm plans to revamp many of its facilities and may also close one facility.

A Tine spokesperson told the website that there will be no changes until around 2020-2021 when Jarlsberg cheese exports will be discontinued.

After 2020-2021, production of Jarlsberg will be shifted to a new facility in Ireland where it will be carried out in partnership with Dairygold.

The Irish plant is expected to be operational in 2019 and until then, the Jarlsberg production will continue in Norway to cater domestic and overseas markets.

The company plans to rebuild the dairy facility in Elnesvagen, Norway, and close the plant in Hardanger.

With the closure of the Hardanger facility, the cream cheese production will be shifted to Orsta, which is in the western part of the country.

The company will also make a decision on the Voss dairy facility once the Elnesvagen facility is rebuilt.

The group has more than 110 brands and 1,300 product lines, including ready meals and juices.
