Schwan’s Company to purchase MaMa Rosa’s Pizza in US


Minnesota-based frozen food business Schwan’s Company has agreed to acquire MaMa Rosa’s Pizza from HGGC, a middle-market private equity firm in the US.

Financial details of the transaction have not been disclosed by either company.

The deal is expected to be finalised by 15 June.

HGGC co-founder and managing director Greg Benson said: “Schwan’s is a well-established company within the US frozen foods market. We feel this sale represents an extremely positive business decision that will take MaMa Rosa’s Pizza to the next level in terms of growth and distribution.”

Founded in 1952, Schwan’s Company’s subsidiaries sell foods through its retail, foodservice and home-delivery channels.

Schwan’s Company CEO Dimitrios Smyrnios said: “This acquisition will be mutually beneficial. For Schwan’s, this acquisition demonstrates our commitment to the US pizza market and gives us an opportunity to immediately expand our pizza business.

“MaMa Rosa’s will become part of a world-class team that makes high-quality frozen foods for foodservice, home delivery and retail outlets.”

Established in 1979, MaMa Rosa’s manufactures products for the foodservice industry and retail stores under the MaMa Rosa’s and Fight’n Tomato Pizza brands.
