Olive oil maker Pompeian opens new research and development centre in US

US-based extra virgin olive oil producer Pompeian has opened its new research and development centre in Baltimore, Maryland.

As part of the company’s ongoing commitment to quality, Pompeian has invested $2m in the new centre to help ensure the quality, purity and full traceability of Pompeian products.

Pompeian Quality and Research and Development vice-president Luisito Cercaci said: "At Pompeian, we are very proud to have developed a uniquely skilled team leading us to become the industry's leader and innovator in quality

"The completion of the quality control and research and development centre marks the company's latest demonstration that quality is our number one priority."

Pompeian’s new facility features a modern laboratory that will be able to conduct quality and purity analysis on approximately 15,000 samples a year, in compliance with international quality standards and certifications.

"The completion of the quality control and research and development centre marks the company's latest demonstration that quality is our number one priority."

Designed by architect Gil Even-Tsur, the facility will be equipped with Pompeian's unique traceability software system that keeps track of every oil batch and provides additional details, such as where each olive is grown and harvested.

The centre also features a specialised lighting system, a sensory preparation room to store and prepare samples for sensorial evaluation, and a light-controlled olive oil research room to mimic store shelf conditions.

Recently, the Pompeian Sensory Panel received American Oil Chemists' Society (AOCS) accreditation.
