Norwegian Seafood Council develops online platform with information on cod

The Norwegian Seafood Council (NSC), along with its new Cod Academy content hub, has developed a platform to provide a central resource for online information on Norwegian cod.

Some Norwegians earn their livelihood by fishing and exporting cod worldwide.

The successful Norwegian seafood industry is a result of knowledge combined with more research and science than in any other seafood industry in the entire world, NSC claimed.

The content to be delivered through the online site will be simple and provide knowledge on fishery policies, stock management, taste and quality, supply chain, sustainability and quotas, it stated.

The site will allow the fishing industry in all markets globally to explore and understand the complete Norwegian cod value chain.

Norwegians export cod to the world’s largest cod market, the UK, and sell their salted cod in the Mediterranean region and beyond.

The Norwegian Seafood Council was founded in 1991 by the Ministry of Fisheries. Headquartered in Tromso, it has been entrusted with the task of educating and raising awareness among people globally about seafood from Norway.

Norway is the world’s second largest exporter of seafood in the world and supplies seafood to more than 150 countries.

In 2015, Norway set a record in the export of cod after several years of low prices. Norway exported fishes such as cod, haddock, saithe and other whitefish worth $1.49bn (NOK13bn) in 2015.

The country has seen a rise of 8% in exports in 2015 compared to 2014.
