New technology from Linde Gases to improve oxygen delivery in fish farming sea cages

Linde Gases has launched Solvox DropIn, a new technology to enhance the delivery of oxygen to fish farming sea cages.

Designed to be used in sea cages that face unhealthy water conditions due to low levels of oxygen, the technology is said to be ideal for sea cage oxygenation during sea lice treatment.

Sea lice affect the health of fish and destroy the skin of the host, causing lesions and infections. While it occurs mostly in natural conditions, presence in farmed fish raises the possibility of infestation.

Fish farmers are required to apply treatments in case the sea lice concentration rises above a certain level.

Solvox DropIn can be delivered easily when supplementing oxygen to sea cages. It can be dropped to the required depth using a small crane. The machine features an electric pump with a patented oxygen dissolver and distribution system with a venturi nozzle.

The oxygenated water is then distributed across the cage with four nozzles located at the top. The microbubbles produced have a low rising velocity that increases the bubble residence time in the water, which also increases the oxygen dissolution efficiency, even at low pressures.
