Nestlé to open new operations centre in Canelones, Uruguay

Global food company Nestlé is set to establish a new operations centre in El Parque Industrial Zona Este, a suburb of Canelones, Uruguay, with an investment of UYU600m ($20.7m).

Serving as the company's country headquarters, the new site will include a production plant and a distribution centre.

The facility is expected to increase production levels of soluble coffee, powdered chocolate beverages, baking premixes and mashed potatoes.

“The investment that we are making with the relocation of our operations is one of the most important bets in the region in the last decade."

Equipped with modern technologies and powered by renewable energy sources, the new facility is expected to create nearly 350 employment opportunities, and nearly 150 jobs will be created during the construction of the new site. More than half of the total investment in equipment has been allocated for green technologies.

Upon completion of the new facility, Nestlé Uruguay will be relocating its factory and distribution centre, as it is expected to enhance efficiency by having all the operations within the same location.

Nestlé Uruguay country manager Andreas Dürig said: "Uruguay is an expanding market for Nestlé with many opportunities to develop.

“The investment that we are making with the relocation of our operations is one of the most important bets in the region in the last decade. It reinforces our commitment to the country, our employees and our consumers, who are the ones who choose our products every day."

The new operations centre will open in mid-next year.
