Mondelez in negotiations to acquire Cadbury licence to produce biscuits

American multi-national confectioner Mondelez has approached Burton’s Biscuit with a £200m proposal to purchase its license to produce biscuits under the Cadbury brand.

The proposal is currently in the early stages, and if the deal materialises, two separate Cadbury units, one for confectionery and the other for biscuits, would come together under Mondelez, reported Sky News.

Canada's Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan owns Burton's, which manufactures biscuits such as Cadbury Fingers through a licence from Cadbury UK.

This occurred after Mondelez put forward a bid to Kisses chocolates manufacturer The Hershey Company for $23bn, which was in fact rejected.

Mondelez bought chocolate manufacturer Cadbury for approximately $19bn in 2010.

Burton's has three manufacturing facilities, Llantarnam, Edinburgh and Blackpool, as well as a distribution centre in Liverpool and a chocolate refinery in Moreton.
