Japan-based Nagatanien acquires Chaucer

Japanese manufacturer and distributor of pre-mixed and instant food Nagatanien has acquired specialist bread producer Chaucer.

Financial details of the acquisition have not been disclosed.

The acquisition is beneficial for both firms as they focus on health and wellness products, as well as natural ingredients.

The deal will provide a foundation to improve their strategic growth platform, where each company can take advantage from their existing relationships and their respective infrastructures.

Chaucer CEO Andy Ducker said: “We are delighted to be partnering with Nagatanien. They are a longstanding business and the leading brand in the Japanese market for pre-mixed, instant and freeze-dried food.

“From inception, Nagatanien’s corporate philosophy has been ‘Aji-Hitosuji’ translating to ‘naturally excellent taste’, and this is perfectly aligned with our own attitude of producing healthy ingredients to meet the growing trend towards healthy eating and nutrition."

The acquisition will also help Chaucer to further develop its global operations and allow the company to capitalise on market growth opportunities.

Established in 1953, Nagatanien has been offering instant and freeze-dried Japanese food, and by taking over Chaucer, it intends to access to clean label products, expanding its global footprint.
