Cherkizovo Group starts construction of new meat processing plant in Moscow

Russian meat and feed producer Cherkizovo has started construction of a new processing plant in Kashira, Moscow, with an investment of RUR6bn ($93.3m).

Upon completion, the plant is reported to be the largest of its kind in Europe, and will also be the largest investment project made by food industry representatives in the Moscow region.

The daily 80t production capacity of the new facility outstrips that of any other meat processing plant in Europe.

The new facility will be equipped with modern equipment to ensure the highest quality and bio-safety of the end products, and the company also plans to use energy-efficient technologies as the sausage production process will be fully automated using raw materials from the group’s other segments.

The new production plant would create nearly 150 employment opportunities, and the group expects to pay additional taxes of more than RUR3bn ($46.7m) to the region over the next five years.

Cherkizovo has also filed an application to assign the project the status of a strategic investment project, due to the large-scale investment made by the company, and the significance it will have on the region.

The company also intends to expand the Kashira meat processing plant for further strengthening its regional presence.
