Brusco launches barley and spinach powders in UK
UK-based bulk ingredients supplier Brusco has introduced 100% Italian, barley and spinach powders to its range of products.
The two new powders are expected to enhance the clean label and nutritional benefits concept of various food and drink products, according to Brusco.
Created from the barley grass, the company said that barley powder contains almost twice as much protein as an equivalent amount of wheat germ, five times the minerals of animal protein, and all nine essential amino acids.
The barley powder, which is also available in a flaked form, can be used in a variety of food applications, including health drinks, soups and ready meals.
Grown in Italy, Brusco’s dehydrated spinach powder is naturally gluten-free, vegan, and rich in fibre, nutrients and vitamins. It can be used in yeast bread, wraps, quick bread, pasta, soups, drinks, vitamins, baby food, and dips.
Brusco managing director Andrew Ashby said: “They offer a great way to add clean label nutrients and colour to food and drink items and also allow food processors to have simple, consumer-friendly declarations on their products.
“In addition to spinach powder, we also supply cuttlefish ink in powder form for creating a natural black colour in products such as pasta, sauces, and meals, but with none of the mess the liquid form creates.”
