Blue California to enhance production of ferulic acid from rice bran
US-based purified natural ingredient manufacturer Blue California is planning to enhance the production capacity of ferulic acid (FA) from rice bran to an estimated 500t by next year.
FA is a ubiquitous phytochemical present in cell walls and found in foods such as rice, wheat, oats, seeds, beans, nuts and corn. It serves as an antioxidant that can be used in dietary supplements as well as in food products as a potential natural preservative.
Blue California executive vice-president Cecilia McCollum said: "Our production capacity was no longer sufficient for the growing demand for natural ferulic acid so this increase will create new commercial opportunities for our business partners and will benefit consumers as well."
The demand for the FA is increasing, but its availability is limited. Blue California expects to boost production to capture this demand.
McCollum added: "We are doing our part in helping our customers deliver the natural products consumers want."
The company produces natural compounds and botanical extracts for the food, beverage, cosmetics and flavours industries at its manufacturing facilities, which hold GMP and BRC certifications.
