Ireland Probes Salmonella Linked to Duck Eggs

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) is investigating an ongoing outbreak of salmonella linked to the consumption of duck eggs.

Six cases of Salmonella Typhimurium DT8 have been confirmed in recent months, according to the FSAI.

The FSAI is working with the Department of Agriculture, government officials and local authorities to control the outbreak and prevent further cases.

The danger posed by the bacteria can be removed by thoroughly cooking the eggs and preventing cross-contamination between any raw egg and ready-to-eat foods.

Symptoms of salmonella infection can include diarrhoea, stomach cramps, vomiting and fever.
