Term: Clean-In-Place

Definition:

Clean In Place (CIP) refers to the process of cleaning and sanitizing food processing equipment in it's assembled position without the need for dismantling and cleaning the individual parts. Cleaning in place significantly reduces the time and cost (and generally ineffective) implications of manual cleaning. Cleaning in place requires sanitizer solution of suitable concentration to be circulated through the process equipment.
