Realiability and Maintenance: Pulp and Paper Case StudyIDCON
A paper mill in South Carolina wished to improve production output through maintenance uptime, while keeping the fixed cost the same. IDCON was engaged to conduct a current best practices (CBP) audit for the mill.
The facility scored a 33 verses a best-in-class score of 75. The reliability of the mill's paper machine 3 (PM3) was lacking in comparison with other mills within the company, and maintenance unscheduled downtime was 6.4%.
After 18 months, IDCON helped the company improve shutdown time and decreased the breakdown rate of both PM3 and the motor. PM3's unscheduled downtime was 2.5%.
