FOOD PROCESSING AT UNILEVER

The food process engineering function within Unilever exists on three levels:

  • Discover - using breakthrough technology to design novel processes for new (product) concepts
  • Design - process development of Unilever's food manufacturing operations
  • Deploy - implementation of technological developments in Unilever's food manufacturing operations

For all of these levels we are continuously looking for talented candidates, either with a scientific background (PhD, or MSc + experience in (applied) scientific research), or with a background in process design (MSc + relevant experience in food processing design) or in deployment (BSc with experience in QA/QC or process technology).

DISCOVER: PROCESS AND SUPPLY CHAIN DESIGN

Unilever R&D, Vlaardingen, The Netherlands.

The 'Process and Supply Chain Design' department is part of the Unilever Food and Health Research Institute (UFHRI) in Vlaardingen, Unilever's main central research institute for food and health. UFHRI supports brand innovation programs, based on scientific and technological capabilities.

The department has four Expertise Groups focussing on:

  • Production Engineering: advanced conceptual production system design and engineering, systems for new channels and packaging
  • Hygienic Manufacturing: ensure food safety and quality through process and equipment-design based on understanding cleaning / fouling principles
  • Process Engineering: advanced process design and engineering based on process understanding, supported by mathematical / physical models
  • Supply Chain: model-based supply chain design / improvement to minimize overall system costs and maximize customer service levels

Job Vacancy: Process Engineer - for this department we are looking for a PhD-level Process Engineer who will:

  • Monitor (scientific) developments in the field of process engineering in order to assess relevance and impact for the business. Build the process engineering capability by an active internal and external network of experts in the field
  • Generate and develop new opportunities for the Unilever business, and initiate and manage research activities on process engineering
  • Carry out literature and cross-category reviews, integrating information into frameworks and summarizing these into project proposals, reports and/or presentations for different audiences (e.g. scientists, product developers, marketeers)

DESIGN AND DEPLOY: PROCESS DEVELOPMENT MANAGEMENT (WET SAVOURY)

Unilever Manufacturing, Europe.

Responsible for process development for Unilever's food manufacturing operations in Europe and for the implementation of new technological developments in the area of food sterilization and preservation.

Job Vacancy: Process Development Manager - we are looking for a MSc level Process Development Manager (wet food processing) who will:

  • Identify and deploy new technological developments in the area of food sterilization and preservation in close co-operation with internal and external partners
  • Develop and maintain scheduled thermal processes and carry out optimization studies to reduce cycle time and improve quality
  • Grow the wet savoury processing capability by maintaining an internal and external network of experts in the field
