Tetra Pak, a world leader in food processing and packaging, today announced that it has signed a contract for the production of caps in Russia with the Europlast Association, a leading local manufacturer. Closures that were previously imported to Russia will now be produced locally.
This move is part of Tetra Pak's continuing efforts to provide customers with timely, cost-efficient innovative packaging solutions.
Said Igor Akimov, managing director of Tetra Pak Russia: "We are continuously looking for additional opportunities to optimise each stage of the production cycle. By localising production of closures we will significantly simplify logistics, reduce the lead time and respond to our customers' requests in less time and with higher flexibility. This is yet another step in our ongoing efforts to respond quickly to changing market requirements and customer needs."
Consumers' growing preference for convenient packaging solutions has resulted in increased demand for packages with closures. A year ago one out of six Tetra Pak packages in Russia was fitted with a closure. Since then this number has doubled: every third package delivered by Tetra Pak in Russia comes with a cap. Production is currently starting up, with 15 production lines to be installed in 2007.
Europlast Association, a leading producer of polymer caps and PET preforms in Russia and CIS, operates ten plants, located in Russia, Kazakhstan, Ukraine and Moldova. The leading international and Russian drinks' producers are clients of Europlast.
Tetra Pak Russia is working on localising production of its packaging material. As previously announced, this year a new Tetra Pak converting factory will start its operations in Lobnya, Moscow region. This will be the largest converting factory in Russia and the CIS. At the first stage the factory will supply four billion packages to the largest Russian food producers annually.
Tetra Pak has been successfully operating in the Russian market for almost 50 years. It has established strong partnerships with Russia's leading food producers. Headquartered in Moscow, Tetra Pak Russia has regional offices in St. Petersburg, Krasnoyarsk, Krasnodar and Yekaterinburg.
Currently, Tetra Pak Russia manufactures packaging material at two converting factories in Timashevsk (Krasnodar region) and in Korolev (Moscow region). Tetra Pak employs over 700 people in Russia. The total 2006 sales volume in Russia exceeded 6.1 billion packages or 43 packages per capita. Last year Tetra Pak delivered about 130 billion packages worldwide, and overall sales volume exceeded €8.5 billion.
