Colder Products Company Introduces Economical, Easy-to-Use, Quick-Disconnect Chemical Dispensing System

08 May 2007 09:37

St. Paul, Minnesota – The new DrumQuik® PRO chemical-dispensing system from Colder Products Company facilitates safe, efficient extraction of chemicals from drums, jerry cans, IBCs and other bulk-transfer containers, while helping to reduce costly spills, contain hazardous fumes and enhance workplace safety. The rugged, easy-to-use, closed system design combines in one integrated unit a common bung closure, a recyclable dip-tube and a reusable quick-disconnect coupler, ensuring that both sides are sealed from point-of-origin to point-of-use.

"The best way to minimize exposure when dispensing chemicals from bulk containers is with a closed system that eliminates the removal of the inserted dip tube from the drum," said Thomas Braun, business manager, of chemical and packaging products at Colder Products Company. "To use the DrumQuik PRO system, users easily dispense chemicals by first removing the tamper-evident shipping plug and then locking in the coupler. This eliminates the need to install, remove or clean a dip tube, minimizing the potential for fluid or vapor contact while allowing fast changeovers."

DRUMQUIK PRO CHEMICAL-DISPENSING SYSTEM COMPONENTS

The DrumQuik PRO system is comprised of two components: a very rugged, reusable coupler or 'dispense head', and a drum insert assembly consisting of the bung closure and dip-tube. The drum insert is shipped as part of the drum package and the coupler is installed at the user sight. This system provides a cost-efficient alternative to previous open and semi-open dispensing systems.

No special tools are required to connect the coupler to the drum with this system. Post-use handling, clean-up and disposal of the drum is much more straightforward because less residual chemical remains in the drum, due both to the superior emptying capacity of the DrumQuik PRO dip-tube system and the fact that the low-cost drum insert and closure are recyclable right along with the drum. The quick-disconnect coupler features automatic shut-off valves that prevent leakage when disconnected; can be easily rinsed and cleaned for re-use; and is capable of thousands of connections.

ECONOMICAL DRUMQUIK PRO DRUM INSERT ASSEMBLY

Ideal for high volume, single-use applications, the economical DrumQuik PRO drum insert assembly is made from virgin natural polyethylene material. The coupler is made from superior polypropylene to assure long-term chemical resistance with most general and high purity uses, including food handling, fragrances and flavorings, paint and coatings, pharmaceuticals, industrial laundry and janitorial supply to name just a few. Use of FDA-approved materials allows use of the product in applications where this is a requirement.

A built-in ported vent system allows the user to safely manage venting of the container. The vent can either be routed to atmosphere by using a check valve to prevent harmful vapors from contaminating the work environment while allowing make-up air into the container, connected to a pressure source to force liquid out of the container, or connected to an inert blanket gas source (N2, CO2, etc.), to protect sensitive liquids such as edible oils, fragrances or other chemicals from oxidation resulting from contact with air.

APPROVED FOR HAZMAT-GRADE CHEMICALS TRANSPORTATION

Compatible with many types of common drums and containers, the DrumQuik PRO is capable of passing United Nations and US Department of Transportation approval standards for the transport of HAZMAT-grade chemicals when tested in conjunction with a suitable container. The system offers an operating pressure range from vacuum to 45psig (0bar to 3.1bar). DrumQuik PRO is available in both North American and European drum thread sizes.
