Developments in Shelf Life and Pack Quality

14 September 2006

On 24 May the University of Lincoln's Holbeach campus hosted the first seminar under the banner of the Food Industry Technical Training Partnership. The Partnership was initiated by local food processing companies concerned about the lack of skilled technical operators in the food industry.

In support of the Food Industry Technical Training Partnership, Ishida Europe has donated a state-of-the art packaging line and it has been installed at Holbeach campus. Several other complementary pieces of equipment have also been donated and integrated into the packaging line. These have been provided by companies such as Air Liquide, Tendring Pacific and PBI Dan Sensor.

The recent seminar on Developments in Shelf Life and Pack Quality created the opportunity for about 30 managers from large and small food companies to participate in 2 presentations from Ishida Europe and FFP. These covered many technical and management aspects of automation and flexible packaging.

Following the presentations delegates had the opportunity see the packaging line in action and to experience how the new sensory evaluation suite, food chemistry and microbiology laboratories could be used to test the quality, safety and sensory properties of food packed on the line.

In addition there were plenty of opportunities for networking over a buffet and refreshments.

The Partnership is very grateful to Ishida and FFP for their contribution and their web sites can be accessed from the following links http://www.ishidaeurope.com/ and http://domain631778.sites.fasthosts.com/ffp/index.html
