Bruel First Choice for CHEP!

14 December 2005

Brüel International, the European specialists in the manufacture and installation of crate washing and handling systems for the food industry, have installed their latest technology at four of CHEP's sites that have now achieved the British Retail Consortium/ Institute of Packaging (BRC/IoP) Technical Standard for food packaging.

CHEP, the global leader in pallet and container pooling solutions, had four of its Service Centres certified as being BRC/IoP compliant in Bornem in Belgium, Wakefield in the UK, Benifya in Spain and Albi in France. The certification was announced last month after an intensive inspection process by SGS, one of the world's leading inspection, verification, testing and certification companies. Brüel, who have worked with CHEP for over 7 years, have installed single or twin lane tunnel washers at each of the sites.

The CHEP sites carry out a crucial role in the food sector in each country by washing and disinfecting the reusable plastic containers and trays used throughout the industry for the safe and hygienic movement of raw materials, ingredients and finished food products. The new standard, based on HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points), will further reassure customers that the service they receive is utilising the best global practices for hygiene management.

Dr Mark Hoffman of Brüel International said, "We have worked with CHEP for several years and we are delighted that our expertise in the crate washing process has contributed to it achieving the BRC/IoP technical standard."

Scientists at Brüel have been studying the crate washing process for more than twenty years to ensure their installations reach the highest levels of efficiency and hygiene. Each installation is tailored to the specific needs of the food processing plant it serves. The success of this technology is demonstrated by the fact that Bruel have now installed advanced washing plants in more than 700 food and beverage factories and box pool operations across Europe.

"Our knowledge and experience is founded solidly on decades of working with the continental meat processing, fishing and bakery industries," added Mark. "This has enabled us to develop the science of crate washing to ensure the highest standards of bacteriological and visible cleanliness."
