Natural phytochemicals are among the most highly sought after ingredients in cosmetics. Symrise is one of the world's leading providers of fragrances and flavorings and of the raw materials and active ingredients used in cosmetics. As such, the company has been working for years to supply the international cosmetics industry with a large array of innovative natural ingredients of proven efficacy. The company now combines its high-quality plant extracts under a new product line: Symrise Actipone®.

Their broad range of beneficial effects make the Actipone plant extracts suitable for use in a large number of cosmetic products. The goal at Symrise is to continue expanding the Actipone product line. Tapping new sources of natural raw materials that can be developed into patentable extracts is one way in which Symrise has been pursing this objective. Another way – and one completely in keeping with 'The Power of And' corporate strategy – has been to conduct screening tests on plant-based active agents already in the company’s repertoire in the hopes of finding additional beneficial effects.

In introducing the Actipone product line, Symrise is responding to increasing demand within the cosmetics industry for high-quality, natural active ingredients that have been shown to be effective; the company is also taking the expertise it has acquired over many years in the area of plant-based active substances and is once again putting that expertise to the test.

The Symrise Actipone range covers a variety of natural, largely standardized plant extracts from Asia, Europe and Africa. These include herbal extracts (such as Actipone Rosemary), fruit concentrates (such as Actipone Alpha Pulp), tea and coffee extracts (such as Actipone Green Coffee GW), marine plants (Actipone Laminaria Saccharina) and root and flower extracts from the traditional Chinese medicine (such as Actipone Honeysuckle Flower.

The range of beneficial effects provided by the active agents in these preparations is just as broad, with extracts that combat skin irritations, for instance, act as anti-oxidants or MMP inhibitors, promote skin lightening and improve the properties of hair-care products. These results allow Symrise research to demonstrate yet again that Symrise botanicals have far more to offer than an immense selection of creative and inspiring natural ingredients.
