Laboratoire Oenobiol, France, has opened a new category with Oenobiol Homme – a skin-protection nutritional supplement for men. Oenobiol Homme Solaire Intense is based on LycoRed's Lyc-O-Mato® – a tomato lycopene complex that helps maintain healthy skin by protecting against UV-induced damage. Nutritional skincare supplements for 'beauty from within' are the brainchild of Dr. Marie Béjot, the president of Laboratoire Oenobiol.
The European nutricosmeceutical market, driven by innovative active ingredients, has enjoyed rapid growth in the last few years. In France, nutritional supplements represent a €869 million market, with pharmacies and parapharmacies representing 70% of the market sales. Oenobiol sun-care nutritional supplement products hold a 37% market share, and are number one in the sun-care category.
OENOBIOL HOMME SOLAIRE INTENSE SKIN-PROTECTION
"Following the success of the 'beauty from within' campaign featuring the Solaire brand for women, and the growing consumer awareness of the necessity to protect the skin from sun exposure, Oenobiol is launching a sun-protection brand targeting health-conscious men," said Dr. Béjot. Currently, skin cancer resultant from sun exposure is the number one cancer in men of 50+.
Solaire Intense targets men of 30-35, who want to get a long-lasting tan while reducing their sun exposure. Oenobiol Homme Solaire Intense will be distributed exclusively in pharmacies and parapharmacies in Belgium, Switzerland, Spain, Italy and Portugal, accompanied by the strong endorsement of pharmacists.
LYC-O-MATO TOMATO LYCOPENE COMPLEX
"We chose to include Lyc-O-Mato in our brand because we have performed and published a clinical study demonstrating the photoprotective effect of a carotenoid combination including Lyc-O-Mato," explains Béjot. "Lyc-O-Mato contains a syngergistic mix of antioxidants for sun protection specifically colourless carotenoids like phytoene and phytofluene. This carotenoid combination helps protect the skin against cell damage caused by UVA and UVB radiation from sunlight.
"By increasing the levels of antioxidants in the skin, Lyc-O-Mato enhances the body's natural defences against UV-induced skin damage, supports healthy skin structure, and helps to prevent premature ageing of the skin."
Oenobiol is a French family-owned company, founded in 1985 by Dr. Béjot, its current president and major shareholder, and her husband, Mr. Benoît Harang.
Philippe Charrier, the former president of Procter and Gamble France, has recently joined the company. Oenobiol products are manufactured in compliance with strict pharmaceutical standards and comply with the new European regulations on food supplements.
