Firmenich Launches First Nutritional Ingredient

Firmenich has just launched Duralife® Omega 3, the most stable form of omega 3 powder.
Inspired by the undisputed trend towards functional foods, Firmenich, the largest privately-owned company in the flavor and fragrance industry, has made a major innovation step by combining its flavor and encapsulation expertise to offer nutritional specialty ingredients suitable for the food industry.
Duralife® Omega 3 is the first nutritional specialty ingredient to be launched by Firmenich's Nutrition & Health Unit, set up in 2005. Nutrition & Health by Firmenich aims to offer solutions for ingredients that are unsuitable for use in foods because of unstability or intrinsic taste, but which possess clinically proven health benefits.
Firmenich thus offers its clients an integrated three-step approach, providing the food industry with solutions for a healthy food, without sacrificing the pleasures of taste:
1. Ingredients: apply and adapt Firmenich technologies to solve issues related to nutritional ingredients, including inherent instability, intrinsic off-flavors or reactivity within food matrices, to offer nutritional specialty ingredients suitable for food and beverage applications.
2. Solutions: use Firmenich food application know-how to provide nutritional solutions within the constraints imposed by food processes, end product formulations and consumer taste preferences
3. Services: leverage Firmenich services in creativity, consumer understanding and market insight to provide innovative solutions that best answers the consumers' demands for healthy foods that taste great.
The proprietary technology used to develop this first nutritional ingredient, Duralife® Omega 3, is the same that underpins the extremely successful Durarome® flavor range produced by Firmenich, which protects flavors from oxidation. The flavor has been replaced with omega-3 fatty acids and Durarome®, recognized for its outstanding storage stability, has thus become Duralife® Omega 3 - a different product with a technology that provides the same benefits.
Duralife® Omega 3 is particularly valuable for instant dry or dehydrated applications in sweet, savory and beverage applications, from instant hot or cold drink powders, to instant hot cereals, compressed tablets, fat fillings, powder mixes for cakes and desserts, baby food, dehydrated soups and ready meals.
