DSM Nutritional Products has fully recovered from the fire at the lipid (ROPUFA) plant in Heanor, UK which had knocked out production and which gave DSM a supply crisis for the ROPUFA oils (n-3 and n-6) for more than a year. The production is now successfully running again at the DSM plant based in Sisseln (CH).
ROPUFA – COLD-WATER FISH OIL DERIVED INGREDIENT FOR DIETARY SUPPLEMENTS, FOODS AND INFANT FORMULAS
Commissioning the new plant allowed DSM to implement improved processes and it now offers a technically advanced set of ROPUFA® forms with market-leading properties of taste, stability and purity. Extensive market research indicates that consumers are more aware than ever of the healthy role that fish oil can play in their diet. Derived from the oil of cold-water fish, ROPUFA contains high amounts of the bioactive fatty acids eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), making it an attractive ingredient to manufacturers of dietary supplements, foods and infant formulas.
DSM uses highly advanced technologies as well as stringent safety standards for its ROPUFA range production. "DSM’s ROPUFA products are manufactured to meet the growing needs and requirements of our customers," comments Krijn Rietveld, senior vice president of the nutrition innovation group at DSM Nutritional Products. “Our new production plant takes the leadership position to a new level. Increasingly consumers understand the benefits of long-chain omega-3 fatty acids. However not everyone enjoys eating fish. ROPUFA offers consumers what they are asking for: the goodness of fish without the 'fishy'. It fits perfectly with DSM Nutritional Products' focus on ingredient quality, traceability and reliability."
