At the Interpack exhibition in Duesseldorf, Germany, from April 21 to 27, the Austrian company Franz Haas Waffel- und Keksanlagen-Industrie GmbH, presented to the public for the first time the new design of the machines for wafer and biscuit production, a new high-capacity wafer baking system, and a new depositor for aerated creams, batters and marshmallows.
In the year of the 100th company anniversary, this big re-design step was done to implement technical improvements and at the same time to achieve a uniform and distinct appearance across the entire food machinery program of the Haas group which now also includes aeration equipment of the Dutch company Haas-Mondomix (acquired in 2002) and ice-cream cone baking ovens of the German company GAM Steinhoff (acquired in 2003).
For developing the new design, apart from unifying the appearance of the machines, attention was paid not only to technical and commercial factors such as production capacity, consumption values, service life, functionality, common parts and components, flexibility and low maintenance requirements, but also to features like safety, hygiene, environmentally friendliness, ergonomics and ease of operation.
Some of the main features of the new design:
- Large-surface panelling without projecting parts
- All electric and electronic components are fully integrated into the machines; there are no external switch cabinets requiring external cable installation; less space requirements, easier installation on site
- Possibility for remote maintenance
- Reduced number of machine feet and higher ground clearance for easier cleaning
- Operation via integrated touch screen panels with color display
- Macrolon panes on the sides and on top of cream spreaders and wafer cutters allow unimpeded process monitoring while offering improved safety and hygiene
NEW HIGH-CAPACITY WAFER BAKING SYSTEM
This newly developed wafer baking oven offers a capacity of approximately up to 80 large-sized (up to 350mm x 730mm) wafer sheets per minute which is far above the previous top capacity of about 50 wafer sheets per minute. Currently there is no other system with such a capacity available on the market.
In order to cope with the high output, the oven uses an innovative wafer sheet take-off system which works by vacuum. A rotating drum with suction cups gently picks up the baked wafer sheets and transfers them to an overhead conveyor which feeds them to the downstream wafer sheet cooler.
A complete wafer line consisting of this oven and the suitable high-capacity downstream equipment is already successfully in operation at a customer’s plant in Austria.
NEW XYZ OVERHEAD DEPOSITOR
This new Haas-Mondomix depositor is suitable for all types of aerated creams, batters and marshmallows. The unit allows not only depositing of 2D shapes but also of 3Dshapes.
Marshmallow can be extruded in continuous ropes on starch dusted conveyors, cut into individual articles, which may thereafter have a profile shape of a house, snowman, chicken, lion, melon, strawberry, or it may be deposited as a simple 'drop' onto a conveyor or into a starch mould. It can also be deposited onto a biscuit and covered with coconut or chocolate. It is even possible to write letters with this unit!
As it is freely programmable, the depositor provides ultimate product flexibility. Various types of manifolds are available to allow encapsulated products as well (that is, marshmallow with a filling).
For manufacturers, the key advantage is the ability to turn out a multitude of products on the same line. The Haas Mondomix XYZ Overhead Depositor is compatible with most of the existing cream and marshmallow lines. Its construction allows a very flexible installation on existing lines. During Interpack, the unit was shown in operation with fat cream on production scale.
